State-wide Protests in Uttar Pradesh Against Murder of Peasant Leader in Chandauli

The emerging peasant leader of Chandauli district and the member of party’s district committee, Com. Dinesh Maurya was brutally murdered while returning from the people’s tribunal organised in Mirzapur on 16 December by criminal goons belonging to land mafia and protected by the BJP. On 22 December, the party called for a state wide protest day against the murder of Com. Dinesh Maurya. He was killed as he got down from a bus near Banaras-Chandauli border and his body was flung into the Ganga river. His body was recovered by police divers the next day. The police in the Chaubepur police station in Banaras while registering the FIR filed the report under sections for road accident instead of murder. On the protest day, party workers across districts marched district headquarters and took out angry protests and burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister. The protestors raised angry slogans against the CM Yogi and the leaders addressing the protest gatherings highlighted how the confidence of the land mafia and criminal elements has increased under this government. In the memoranda submitted to the governor through the district headquarters, the protestors demanded that section for murder be added to the FIR and that the killers be arrested and strict punishment be awarded to them.

In the state capital Lucknow, a march was taken out from the to the Hussainganj Chauraha. A protest demonstration was also organised at the district headquarters in Chandauli. In Deori, the protestors ended the march by burning the effigy of UP CM. Protest marches and demonstrations were also organised in Sonbhadra, Gazipur, Mau, Faizabad, Sitapur, Jalaun, Kushinagar, Allahabad, Mathura and other places.
