In a horrible incident, a factory fire broke out in Delhi’s Mundka on 13 May 2022. Dozens of workers were burnt alive and several others were injured. The official figure of deaths in the Mundka fire is reported to be 27, and the number of missing persons is reported to be 29. However, a fact finding team constituted by AICCTU that visited the place estimates that the number of deaths to be not less than 100.

Delhi has been the epicentre of successive Corona waves that devastated the nation since 2020. From number of infections to number of deaths, the National Capital Region has been second to only Maharashtra in the last two years. Bhagwant Mann, a prominent Member of Parliament from AAP has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), like any other educational institutions, does not merely comprise of teachers and students, but also hundreds of workers who toil every day to keep the campus functioning. It is workers of the campus who keep the campus clean, run the mess in hostels, keep library and class rooms functional, maintain necessary services like electricity, keep the campus green and beautiful as well as make administrative work possible. Majority of these workers, now a days, are hired on contractual basis through private contractors.
