Protests Against Ban on Strikes and Privatization of Ordnance Factories

Countrywide protests were organized on 23 July in response to the call given by trade unions against corporatization and privatization of defence sector and ordnance factories and revoking the ordinance banning strikes.

Protest demonstrations and rallies were held in all the states and major centers in the country. A joint protest rally was held in Patna by central trade unions AICCTU, AITUC, CITU, INTUC, AIUTUC and UTUC.

No to Corporatisation of Defence Factories! Resist EDSO 2021!

In yet another move of dismantling the central sector, the Modi Government, in a swift move, decided to convert 41 Ordnance factories into 7 corporations which is expected to lead to privatization eventually. The Government ignored all previous commitments and implemented its well-designed plan of corporatization when negotiations were pending and when the conciliation process was inconclusive.

Books on defence civilian employees' trade union movement, defence policies and on Indian American military relations were released in a function at Trichy on 28 April on the eve of retirement of Comrade Azhageshwaran, a Marxist - Leninist thinker, emerged from the ranks of working class in defence sector. He was also a renowned trade union leader of ordnance factory, Trichirappalli, for more than 25 years. He was the president of Ordnance factory employees' Union, affiliated to AIDEF, but represented a trend of revolutionary trade unionism in defence employees’ movement.
